Machine Learning

A branch of AI where software learns patterns from data instead of being hand-coded with rules.

Machine Learning (ML) is the part of AI where, instead of a programmer writing every rule, the software is shown many examples and learns the patterns itself. Show it thousands of labelled customer messages and it learns to sort new ones into "complaint", "enquiry" or "spam". Almost every practical AI product today — spam filters, recommendation engines, voice bots — is built on machine learning.
