NLP (Natural Language Processing) Explained in Plain English
Natural Language Processing is the branch of AI that deals with human language. It's the reason a bot can understand "mera order kahan hai" despite typos, slang and mixed languages — and reply like a person.
What NLP actually does
- Understands intent — what does the customer actually want? (order status, booking, complaint)
- Extracts details — the order number, the date, the name, from a messy sentence.
- Generates replies — natural, relevant responses rather than canned lines.
Old NLP vs modern NLP
Older systems matched keywords and broke easily. Modern NLP, powered by large language models, understands meaning and context, so it copes with the way people really write and speak — including Hinglish.
Where you meet NLP every day
Spam filters, search suggestions, voice assistants — and in business, every AI chatbot and voice bot. NLP is the understanding layer; tool calling is the acting layer.
